I took the low route last weekend backpacking up road 150 and the Snipes Trail. The heat was kind of brutal but the payoff was gorgeous camping in the meadows. Fence examination was Aug 1, walk up the trail to check out meadows on Aug 2.
The great news is that the FS fence is in and in good condition. Solidly anchored to trees or steel bars or large wooden posts usually no more than 10 yards apart. There are a few places where they are more like 20-25 yards. But I saw more posts on the ground and leaning against trees, so maybe they are going to install a few more anchored positions. I saw no cows or signs of them.
It clouded up on Sunday for the hike out and there were even a few raindrops at the trailhead. It would be nice if it was a soaker rain, but that is probably wishful thinking.
