Friends of Mt Adams has taken on the volunteer project of removing an eyesore from the Divide Camp area, an old metal snowpole of unknown age. We received approval from the Forest Service for this project, and though the COVID19 outbreak has slowed us down, we did get started this year. In two visits, we managed to cut off the top of the main pole as well as a smaller pole next to it. The cut section was dragged into the forest and it’s crossbeams were removed and carried out. The remainder of the pole still needs to be cut down, and both pieces must then be cut into shorter sections that can be carried out. We have been using hack saws for all the cutting. Below you will see a before and after picture of the main pole. We will need to return next year to finish the project.
